This blog is an ongoing commentary on my philosophy and my work - the focus will be on good, potential, promise and possibilities. If you believe that practically anything can be overcome through positivity, then you are in the right place.

They Say It's Your Birthday!
Greetings, followers and readers of my infrequently updated blog! It's been over 3.5 months since I last shared my thoughts...
My inability to write on a consistent basis surprises very few. I CONSTANTLY have ideas, thoughts, moments that are worthy of embellishment and sharing, but my initiative to capitalize on them seems fleeting at best. So, why now? Why today?
Well, two reasons.
First, it's 12:30 AM Thursday morning- Thursday, March 29th. It's my birthday. It seems like a very good day to blog about my years on this Earth, wisdom learned, etc.
Second, I'm up in Mesa at a conference, away from my wife and daughter and miss them dearly despite having traveled several times in the past (and I'm only 100 miles from home!).
So a written catharsis should do the trick and let me get a few hours sleep before the 6:45 AM alarm.
As I sit thinking about my 46th year of life, I wanted to be concise in my post, but wasn't sure what direction to take. Most of my friends, family and professional associates know me as a fairly low key, good humored, positive thinking, possibility proposing soul who loves meeting, interacting with and helping people. I take pride in NOT taking life too seriously.
Like most of you, I've been through a LOT in my life - ups/downs, loss, adversity, good choices, BAD choices... You get that piece so I won't go there.
So I've decided that I am going to share what I think is the most important thing to have sustained me to date, and what I expect will serve me well until my last day here.
Being tough, being resilient, asking for help when you need it - all good traits that are valuable.
But, what I would tell ANYONE if they asked me what's most important of all, I would have to say that demonstrating patience and kindness- no matter what the circumstances - is the best thing I can do. Think about it, what's the downside to this?
Human beings want to be heard, understood and respected. Demonstrating patience and kindness no matter what immediately begins to satisfy these basic human needs. It diffuses conflict and allows rapport to be built.
Please do not confuse this with being fake or sucking up! Calm and assertive behavior creates an atmosphere of solutions and possibilities, whereas agression creates problems and lose-lose porpositions.
So, my parting advice would be not to kill others with kindness, but neutralize them with it.
Not only is it morally upright, it can substantially help you avoid difficult situations.
Happy birthday, me.
May this year be filled with health, happiness and laughter.
And may it be the best one yet!
Cheers, Kirk @ LKP
